Personality Profile: Joe exudes an air of quiet confidence, calm, and capability. Soft-spoken and companionable with a lurking sense of humor, he makes friends easily and can fit into most any social situation.

Physical Description: He is expectedly physical: wide shoulders, sturdy limbs, narrow hips, and big hands. Blandly handsome in an all-American way, his face is long and lean with a stubborn jaw and a slightly crooked nose. He wears his hair short and is usually clean-shaven. His eyes are his most remarkable feature: they are pale grey, the color of water over stone. He has more than a dozen shrapnel scars, the most visible of which are on his right hand and forearm.

Mutation/Powers: Mutant nerve clusters in his brain and hands allow him to access and override others' central nervous system via touch, allowing him to control their bodily processes--much like a computer user with admin privileges.

Primary: Joe developed his skillset with an eye towards medical application. His abilities include, but are not limited to the following: raising or lowering heart rate, body temperature, and platelet count; releasing or inhibiting hormones and neurotransmitters like adrenaline and endorphin; and shutting down pain receptors.

Drawbacks/Weaknesses: He must be touching someone with his hands for his abilities to have effect and, by choice, has never developed them for offensive use. Their prolonged application can cause him to suffer from a variety of unpleasant side effects including fatigue, nausea, migraine, and depression.

How do you believe this character's power will further develop in the future? It won't. Joe is operating at peak performance, and may continue to do so for a few more years, but his power will gradually decrease with age.

Background: Joe was born in Balmorhea, Texas on June 15, 1985, the only child of Joseph W. Jager III, an associate federal judge for the Western District of Texas, and Margaret MacKenzie Jager, a high school science teacher. Raised on his family's ranch by sane, sensible parents and educated in Balmorhea's small but excellent public school system, his childhood and adolescence were happy, healthy, and unremarkable but for the manifestation of his X-gene at age thirteen. Joe's parents reacted to his diagnosis with characteristic phlegm: they gave wise counsel and promised their unconditional support regardless of how he chose to handle his altered situation. Opting for the middle path, Joe decided to conceal his mutant abilities from the public while exploring them in private. Over the next four years, under the pretext of family holidays and summer camps, he studied under, and was studied by, some of the foremost experts on X-genetics and molecular biology. Surprisingly, no one was ever the wiser. He graduated first in his class and won an academic scholarship to a well-regarded Texas liberal arts college. He did not attend, however. To his mother's horror and his father's grudging pride, Joe enlisted in the Navy as a Hospital Corpsman. He served from 2003 to 2008 and saw deployments in Iraq, Afghanistan, and the Philippines. Following his discharge, Joe joined Médecins Sans Frontières and was attached to humanitarian aid missions in Chad, Laos, and Haiti. In late 2010, sensing that he was nearing the point of emotional and physical exhaustion, he cast about for a less demanding line of work, which he found at Cobalt Academy.
