IRC Nickname: Gregor_Imperian
Name: Gregor Imperian
Alias: Wraith
Age: 21
Date of Birth: January 4th 1990
Hometown: New York City
Height: 6'2
Weight: 190 lbs
Hair Color: Black
Eye Color: Black
Nationality/Race: White/Caucasian
Occupation: Currently a student.
Personality Profile: Given the nature of his powers, Gregor tends to be a bit withdrawn at times, preferring to sit back and watch, and give input only when he thinks what he has to say is going to actually be of value. He's self conscious, though he tries to hide it as best he can. In general a fairly decent homo-superior being.
Physical Description: Tall and slender, Gregor obviously goes to work out a fair amount, but he's hardly an athlete. Pretty trim though, with scruffy sideburns and a light mustache. Not half bad, pretty handsome actually.
Character Picture (Optional):
---------------------------------
Mutation/Powers: Shadow Manipulation
Primary : Shadowform. Gregor is capable of transforming into a sort of semi-physical 'Shadow' body. In this form, most physical attacks or interactions will simply pass through him, causing him <and often the person attempting to touch him> some discomfort. For Gregor, it makes him slightly queasy, though he's starting to learn to overcome it. For the person touching him, it's like putting your hand in a freezer...it's noticably cooler inside, though not enough to cause physical harm. He doesn't really resemble his normal physical form once he transforms, only in the roughest sense, height and build. The rest of his features, such as clothes or personal effects, and facial features, become smoothed over, and impossible to make out. <Essentially he's a humanoid black-ish shadow being. No visible mouth, hard to tell if his nose is actually there, no ears, hair..>
While in this form, apart from possessing remarkable resistance to physical harm, he can pass 'through' most solid objects, such as walls, floors, ceilings...though doing this is, again, somewhat unpleasant for him, and disorienting as well. While in this form, he does not appear to breathe, cannot consume food or drink(If he's hungry or thirsty going in, he continues to feel hunger pangs, but can't do anything about it.) He can transform a limited amount of matter with him in this form, 'merging' it with him briefly...not a whole person, but clothing, his wallet, assorted smaller objects. (Limit of, oh, 50 pounds, since that's already up there?)
There doesn't appear to be any form of real limit as to how long he can 'maintain' this form..it's almost more natural to him than his regular physical body, at this point. He can still speak with others in that form, after all. If subjected to great pain or some kind of substantial injury, it could conceivably knock him out of his shadowform. It's just as conceivable that he'd transform -into- his shadowform if injured in his normal body, as a sort of instinctive reaction to harm, but only if he has the presence of mind to do so. If knocked unconscious, he's stuck in his normal body.
Secondary : Shadow Travelling: Gregor can travel between places of darkness and shadow, so long as he knows their real-world location. If he doesn't, it's a lot more dicey, and he can wind up someplace unintended. He can only do this while in his shadow form, and as yet cannot take anyone with him, other than his 50-lbs limit (Which does NOT at this point include a living person, even if they weigh that little through any means.) Travel is not instantaneous, but far, -far- faster than travelling physically. Actual real-world distance does seem to play a small part though, since it's going to take 'longer' for him to go to the next building over, than across the room. As far as Gregor is concerned, the transferral is like stepping into an utterly dark room, with a thousand pinpricks of light. If he knows where he wants to go and has a clear idea of where it is and the shadows involved, (having seen it before or having an approximate idea of its real world location) he finds himself drawn towards that particular pinprick, and leaves through it. The farther away the destination, the longer it takes, but usually no more than a few moments, all told.
Tertiary : Shadow manipulation. Gregor can create objects out of seemingly thin air, using ambient darkness and shadow to construct temporarily physical materials. The limits here seem to be his own imagination, though complex mechanisms don't function. No guns, or machinery, but a ball, a pole, or a sword are all possible, or a shield. Their strength is fairly limited, currently having the tensile strength of, say, a wooden replica of the object, at best. (If he means it to be lighter, like a ball, then it can be as light or soft as needed.) These objects only remain solid for a very brief period after he drops them or loses contact with them. Perhaps fifteen seconds, though if he picks them back up or continues to hold them, they'll be solid to others until he loses focus.
Drawbacks/Weaknesses/Side Effects : In bright light, with no available shadows, he cannot escape through Shadow Travelling, and cannot create objects through Shadow Manipulation. It also becomes very uncomfortable to remain in his Shadowform, as bright lights tend to be sources of pain in that form. As a rule, Gregor has become a night owl...at first it seemed voluntary, but now he's unnaturally sluggish and tired during the day, even if indoors, or outdoors wearing 'proper protection' against the sun. Light can actually injure him in his shadow form, if its strong enough..'daylight' at its brightest causing mild burns all over his body, which will carry over when he transforms back.
How do you believe this character's powers will further develop in the future? (Note: Not required for staff members.)
Primary: He may someday be able to 'refine' his appearance someday, or transform more than 50 lbs, perhaps temporarily granting his 'shadowform' to another person, but that's very unlikely.
Secondary: He might someday be able to 'carry' a person through the shadows with him, but it'd be difficult and dangerous for the passenger.
Tertiary: This is the most likely to improve before the others. Hopefully he will someday learn to make the objects last longer as solid, or make their maximum strength higher, so they don't break apart so easily. <Going from wood to stone in durability, perhaps>
Weaknesses: The stronger his powers get, the worse his reaction to steady light sources will be. Also, his sluggishness during the day may eventually evolve into simply falling comatose during the day, at some point...it's hypothetically possible.
Background: Gregor grew up in a comfortable apartment in NYC, raised by two middle-class parents. As a child he was fairly bright, intelligent, if a bit reclusive at times, shy even. His parents went to great lengths to try and get him to socialize more, but it never really took. He'd acquire a few friends, who he kept very close, but wasn't so good at making more than a few at a time. When he turned thirteen, he had his first run-in with his mutations...during an altercation with another student, he fled, and when he saw a dead end, he just kept running...and promptly went -through- the wall with a painful lurching sensation, and appeared on the other side, out of the school. It took him years to figure out the limits of his powers, which he's been continually testing, all while going through his classes and trying to get the best possible grades. If anything, his meager social skills have taken a turn for the worse...between social encounters, mastering his mutation, and his studies, the first of the three seems to have fallen by the wayside. The only reason he's even being sent to the Academy is because his lethargy seems to be getting worse. At night he's perfectly normal, but during the day, he can barely function. It's hard to get all of your classes at night, and taking a test during the day is a killer, for him. He hasn't met many other mutants, and is a bit nervous at the prospect...
Quirks, Extras, Random Character Facts: Gregor is a bit of a nerd, truth be told. He plays tabletop roleplaying games, World of Warcraft, and similiar things!
