---------------------------------

Mutation/Powers: The X-gene expressed into his brain and the regional nerve cells, dotting them with hundreds of one-way telepathic terminals, especially around his eyes and language center. A mutant pineal gland continually inundates this psionic arsenal with a psychotropic stew.

Primary : Mass Illusion

Most brains have a constant stream of sensory data coming in. Brew can reach out with his mind and hijack these signals, tuning the brains of people within 30 feet to his frequency. By picturing things in his mind, he can force these illusions on the brains of his afflicted audience. The audience can try to escape the illusion through a force of will, by moving out of range or by injuring Brew, preferably in the head.

The power of the illusion is limited by his attention span. The more people he tries to hold sway, the less complex and integrated his projections can be and the easier they are to escape.

A mind's succeptibility to illusion depends on many factors like preparedness and conviction. Most people are naturally resistant to Brew's brand of telepathy, which is where his second mutation comes in.

Secondary : Hypnosis (individual)

Brew's pineal gland juices his telepathic nodes with a blend of melatonin and dimethyl-tryptamine. The resulting wave of mental energy issues through his eyes, battering the mental defenses of anyone making eye contact and making that person more susceptible to psionic attack. This debuff mainly works on one person at a time.

Tertiary : Hypnosis (mass)

The nodes in his vocal cords and speech center make his mental energy also express through his voice but considerably weaker than the effect that comes from his eyes. Mainly, this is useful for either riling people up or calming people down. Still, this can affect more than one person at a time.

Drawbacks/Weaknesses :

His secondary power is always on, making him always have to keep himself in check and keep it off through willpower. Occasional nosebleeds and headaches are common. He can't read anyone's mind or emotions. Whenever he uses his powers, he glows like a beacon to anyone who detects that kind of thing.

How do you believe this character's powers will further develop in the future?

Besides having a more fine tuned control over his powers, Brew will be able to imagine more complete and enduring illusions into being. He may also unlock the power of his voice as a tool for mass hypnosis.

Background:

Somewhere in his memory is a distant, normal childhood but it's barely visible past the schizophrenic fugue that took him as he developed. It started with an overactive imagination and ended with a group of partygoers tearing out each others' eyeballs when he decided to step behind the turntables while wasted. He doesn't like to talk about that incident.

He was in and out of junkie houses, rehab centers and psychiatric wards up and down the West Coast until he met a young woman who diagnosed his powers as magical and took him to a practicing Native American medicine man of the Pacific Northwest. He in turn introduced Brew to a latter-day worshipper of 7-Flower, the Aztec god of dreams - a man who was also a psionically gifted mutant.

A few years later, after a combination of spirit healing, psychotherapy and instruction on how to use his powers, Tobias emerged from the experience a sane man. He moved to Salem and started working in a bar while working on his electronica. Hearing about the school, he enrolled, hoping to study psychoacoustics.

Quirks, Extras, Random Character Facts: Tobias runs a website for mutant news and resources called Genome Press. He is usually on the lookout for contributed articles and multimedia.

No matter how much he tries, some of his illusion leaks past his guard. Rather than stifle it, he externalized a form for it so that it doesn't bother anybody - it usually resembles a small, fluorescent moth that flies around his vicinity.

He plays guitar and has some experience mixing psytrance and drum&bass. Tobias likes classic rock and world music, often remixing them with electronica.

He works as a bartender and knows how to make many cocktails.
