Parker Smith

Post by floorcandy »

IRC Nickname: `Mel

Name: Parker Smith
Alias: N/a
Age: 21
Date of Birth: June 6
Hometown: Kansas City, Mo

Height: 5'10"
Weight: 120 lbs
Hair Color: dark brown
Eye Color: green
Nationality/Race: American/multiracial

Occupation:
student

Personality Profile: Parker is primarily concerned with his own needs, he likes making money to a sometimes unhealthy degree. He's more self-absorbed than selfish, since he hasn't had many close friendships. Parker is smarter than he acts, and always curious about everything. However, once he starts investigating the latest thing that's caught his eye, he'll usually become completely devoted to it only to abandon it after two weeks.

Physical Description: Parker is medium height and medium build, though more towards the scrawny side of medium. He's fairly ethnically confusing, ambiguously brown, he shrugs off any questions on the subject with an "I dunno, I'm some kinda blasian," response. His ears are pierced, he's usually wearing a pair of silver studs in his earlobes, and he sometimes wears glasses when his contacts are bothering him. Parker's hair is long enough to wear in a ponytail, very thick and has a sort of unkempt-on-purpose look whether he pulls it back or not.

---------------------------------

Mutation/Powers:

Primary : Art Animation: His drawings can be brought to life, the durability and realism of them depends on the time he spent creating the image. These animations don't always obey, however. In fact, the larger something is, the more likely it is to try to maul him. He usually limits himself to drawing props, like ladders and sleds, though he'll make something as large as a medium-size dog if he thinks it'll obey him.

His art animation powers only work if he used real media to make it. Chalk, ink, graphite, charcoal, or paint can always make an effective creation, but digital media will produce nothing. He can't pull images off of a computer screen. Reproductions of his work, or anything anyone else drew, will not work.

Secondary : Flattening: he can become two-dimensional, a drawing on any flattish surface. He could even become a tattoo, if he wanted to. Useful for hiding. He can pull items into flatness with him, but he hasn't successfully attempted this with a living thing yet. He finds that he perceives the flatworld to be three-dimensional, and can view things at different angles while inside of a photograph, like see someone's face who's got their back to the camera. He can also see and hear things going on outside of the drawing, like a scooby doo painting with moving eyes.

He's helpless to outside interference in this form, with no way to defend himself. He can only run and hide. However, his metabolism seems to stop when he's flat, so he can hide as long as he needs to. He takes on the weaknesses of whatever material he's on. If he's hiding on the art on the side of a plastic soda bottle, he wouldn't drown when thrown in water, but he would get harmed and ejected from the image if it was crushed or cut. He'd suffer extreme harm if anything he was occupying was set on fire, even stone or metal.

Tertiary :

Drawbacks/Weaknesses/Side Effects : He can produce a living creature up to twice his size. It will immediately try to murder him. The less time and detail he puts into a creation, the more likely it is to fail or turn on him. He could draw a dog silhouette on concrete with a burned branch, and it would come to life, but be physically made of concrete rather than flesh and blood. It would also be very 'wrong', and may initially obey Parker only to turn on him after a few minutes. Anything he doesn't color, like a black-and-white ink drawing, would come out made of the material it was drawn on, possibly resulting in a literal paper tiger.

He cannot draw things that explode. A bomb he drew, no matter how much time he put into it, would never explode. A gun would never fire. Things that need electricity won't work, either. He could make a vacuum cleaner or a scooter, but they wouldn't function. He could make a living bathtub with feet, though, and it would scuttle around. That would be a bit large, though. It would most likely try to murder him.

In an emergency situation, he could draw something simple, like a pipe or a ball. However, unless he had time to color it in properly, it would have limited usefulness. Anything effective he produces has to be pre-drawn, so if he's separated from his sketchbook, or hasn't drawn anything relevant in it yet, he's useless. His power is more useful for infiltration than actual fighting, since no machines he makes works and he doesn't know how to fight with weapons.

While Parker is flat, he can be flicked with a finger, or just drawn on and both will knock him around the page. After having a dick drawn on his forehead, he'd come out inky and annoyed, with an embarrassingly-shaped bruise. He could have a box drawn around him and be menaced with a hole-puncher. Though he couldn't be erased, cutting or tearing the paper would make him immediately burst back into reality, all gashed up. Soaking paper he's occupying will force him out as well, gasping and choking. Fire will force him out. He will also come out on fire.

How do you believe this character's powers will further develop in the future? (Note: Not required for staff members.)
He may eventually be able to bring others into his flatworld and show them what it's like to be inside a drawing. He may be able to speak with people in photographs while inside of them, rather than just perceiving a frozen moment.

Background: Parker was given up as a baby, and has not had a stable home life since he was young. He was closest with the first woman he remembered taking care of him, an older woman who had become too ill to adopt him. He mainly lived in group homes and with foster families until he aged out of the system.

He never had much luck with making friends, and was on the receiving end of his share of bullying before his mutation ever presented itself. He had a few acquaintances and friendships, and in fact one of his classmates actually reccommended Cobalt to him before he withdrew from classes in his senior year. Parker was glad it was available as an option, but wanted to try to attend a normal university. He found art school to be full of annoying and/or strange people, but they were mostly accepting of him and he had a pretty good time. While experimenting with a power amplifier he got from craigslist, he discovered his ability to flatten and step into a drawing... and got stuck. He remained in the drawing for several weeks, until it found it's way to cobalt and he got let out of it.
