Brad's Villian Submission

Post by Sisip »

Got this in my inbox and when asked got:

[16:40] <Brad> Like I said, I figure him as a long term character, someone that they can thwart, if not really bring to justice right away.

[16:42] <Brad> And hey, if the right circumstances happen, they may need him as an ally at some point, at least on a very tenuous "enemy of my enemy" sort of way.

So a general villian for strife.

Name: Francesco Moretti
Codename: King Midas
Age: 43
Date of Birth: July 15, 1969

Height: 6'7"
Weight: 310lbs
Hair Color: Black
Eye Color: Blue
Place of Origin: Salem, MA
Nationality/Race: White
Classification: Mutant

Status: "Legitimate Businessman"
Occupation: Owner of Midas Imports

Personality Profile: Frank Moretti is a legitimate businessman. He conducts his affairs with the utmost calm and professionalism. He loves his family, and has used his wealth and influence to help improve the community of Salem through philanthropic endeavors. He enjoys the finer things in life, be they the highest quality single malt scotches, or antique furniture for his office, or impeccable tailored suits. His public face is that of a local boy made good that wants to give back. Privately, he is an intensely driven, intensely focused and intelligent businessman. What he can't get through diplomacy, he will achieve through force and intimidation. Beneath his collected, smooth surface lurks a real beast, and woe to anyone that brings that side of him out.

Physical Description: Moretti is a tank of a man, standing at 6'7” tall, and weighing in at just over 300 pounds of muscle. He keeps his black hair cut short and slicked back stylishly, and always wears personally tailored suits and clothing of the finest quality. He adheres to a strict physical regimen, and his body is exceptionally well muscled, with very little fat to be found. All in all, he strikes an imposing figure, both in the boardroom, and in the ring where he likes to test himself against opponents.

Powerset: Man of Gold - Metal Form

Ability One: Moretti is able to transform his body fully into a metallic substance resembling gold in color and texture. This organic metal is far more solid than the soft metal it resembles, however. In this form, Moretti's strength and durability are increased by several magnitudes. In this form he is capable of lifting roughly three tons of weight with normal exertion, and his metallic skin is strong enough to shrug off high caliber bullet fire.

Drawbacks & Weaknesses: In “gold” form, Moretti's overall mass increases substantially, along with a decrease in mobility. He can move normally with effort, but this requires concentration and training on his part. The longer he maintains this form, the more exhausting it becomes, and he's learned to use his ability sparingly and only when necessary.

Skills: Moretti is an exceptionally shrewd businessman. He has managed to single-handedly build up his import/export business from nothing into one of the most profitable firms currently in Salem. He's a trained boxer, and it's a widely known fact among his underlings that those that displease him will often be required to face him in the ring. Some are never heard from again.

Background: Most of Salem knows the public story of Moretti's rise to prominence. Frank Moretti grew up poor, in a Salem that wasn't yet the financial and cultural hub it is today. His family worked hard to provide for their only son, the third generation of their tightly-knit Italian immigrant enclave. When tragedy struck at the docks, Francesco was robbed of his father at the age of thirteen. He vowed to his mother that he would work hard and make something of himself, so that he could always provide for her. He threw himself into any job he could find, and over the years his shrewd business sense, natural head for numbers, and dogged determination led him to building a thriving import/export business from the ground up. Now he stands as a pillar of the community, a philanthropist and magnate, as devoted as he is to his wife and children as he is to his business empire.

Privately, the story is very different. While it's true that his father died when he was a young teenager, it was in a drunken argument with a minor lieutenant of Vincent D'Agostino, a made man in the fledgling criminal underworld of Salem. Francesco saw how these men came forward to settle accounts with the widow, and keep his family quiet, and became determined that he wasn't going to die an alcoholic dockworker like his father. He haunted the same places they did, and eventually managed to endear himself enough to start taking on odd jobs. Deliveries here, petty thefts there. He started training as a boxer in a gym that was being used as a front operation, and his natural size and power made him into a formidable opponent. When his mutation manifested at the age of 16, he became invaluable as an enforcer, and he began to make a name for himself. Still, his ambition was to be more than hired muscle for low-level bosses. What none of his bosses and compatriots quite understood about Francesco was how naturally cunning and intelligent he was.

It took almost ten years to muscle and connive his way through the ranks, during which time his mother had passed away, a victim of lung cancer. But soon he found himself as a lieutenant, with underlings of his own. It was almost time to make his move against the aging D'Agostino. He began setting up his own jobs, and buying his own property, just low-key enough to avoid too much notice. He kept up the appearance of a loyal go-getter while brewing his own plans to usurp control. Within another year, he was the de-facto head of the organization, his youth, intelligence, and more modern ideas far more appealing to most than those of his boss. The power struggle that followed was brief, bloody, and over largely before D'Agostino knew it began. By carefully selecting and recommending his own men, Moretti had surrounded himself with people loyal to himself, and taking the reins was little more than a formality, one that he concluded by almost literally snapping Vincent D'Agostino in two. Some thought it was revenge for the death of his father, but to Moretti, it was just business. The death was reported as an unfortunate riding accident, a sad end to one of the old man's favorite hobbies. Few knew that it was the result of Moretti's ruthlessness.

Moretti spent time focusing on the legitimate side of his business, building it up into a formidable and profitable enterprise, while maintaining a tight grip on his territories in drug trafficking, smuggling, and extortion. As Salem grew, so did his influence, as well as his caution. Now, through front companies, philanthropic activity, and his public life with his wife and children, Moretti has fashioned himself into one of Salem's preeminent entrepreneurs and community figures. Few, if any, outside of his inner circle even suspect his illegal activities.

With Salem on the rise, and with tensions between the mutant and human communities at a fever pitch, Moretti has started to turn his eye towards new and even more profitable business opportunities, and he's more than willing to destroy anything in his way to achieve his goals.

Criminal Record: None currently on file.

Quirks, Extras, Random Character Facts: Despite his ruthless nature, Moretti is truly devoted to his wife Angela and two young children, Thomas and Cicily, keeping them at an arm's length from any of his illegal activities.
