Personality Profile:
Bess used to be fairly chirpy and sugary, though over time she's come to realize that she wasn't surrounded by a magical force field that made everything turn out all right. Since the annulment of her brief marriage, she's been less perky and more snarky, though it wasn't the start of it. She's still a bit alarmed that she's tricked people into thinking she's a grown up adult with responsibilities, and sometimes reverts to spoiled daddy's girl mode in times of crisis.

However, she was a member of the X-Team at one point, so she's not a complete fluffy baby duckling. She knows when to lead and when to follow, when to talk and when to listen. She's probably more mature than she believes herself to be, though not as much as she tries to make her students believe she is.


Physical Description:
Bess is medium-height, with big blue boo-boo eyes and luscious purple hair that she attempts to restrain with a clip when she's working. The blue boo-boo eyes at one point were further mutated by a disease, and are now slitted like a cat's. She's not as flat and slim as she was in college, having distributed a few pints of Ben & Jerry's into her ass, thighs and breasts. She imagines these womanly inches to be miles of ugly fat, and spends as much time on the treadmill as she does in front of the fridge. She dresses more professionally now, with less cleavage and more buttons and brooches and pencil skirts.

Mutation/Powers:

Primary : Melding/Matter Mimicry: She can absorb and become any material that is non-living and non-metal provided it is solid or semisolid. This would include stone, glass, rubber and wood. She has a string of beads of various materials to swallow into her skin and imitate, taking on the strengths and weaknesses of that material. She can meld into solids as well, slurping into concrete and becoming one with it to hide.


Secondary : Material Absorption/Redistribution: She can absorb material into her body and redistribute it to heal herself when damaged in a non-flesh form. Additionally, she can extrude this absorbed mass into additional armor or even extrude shotputs and disks to fling at enemies.

Tertiary :
SL earned physical mutation: Slitted pupils, which provide much improved night vision, comparable to a cats.

Drawbacks/Weaknesses/Side Effects: If Bess is broken in a brittle form, such as tone, and attempts to become human again, she'd have a serious wound. If she doesn't black out from blood loss, she could theoretically return to stone form and absorb material to replace the wounded body part, but when she returned to normal there'd be clear discoloration, as if the new part doesn't quite match. It's possible that if she replaces a wounded part of her body, she'll continue to experience phantom pains in that place for months.

Being knocked out in a solid-matter form will typically return her to flesh against her will, and she'll release the matter she's absorbed. This can even result in her being trapped inside a material, if she was fused when knocked out. She has no defense against psychic attack. Additionally, although pain is dulled in her solid form, she can still be made to feel pain, especially when her eyes are attacked.

How do you believe this character's powers will further develop in the future? (Note: Not required for staff members.)

Background: Bess's from a fairly well-off family, with lots of older brothers. Her mutation was a surprise, but they had already gone through some trials with her oldest brother so Bess had the benefit of parents experienced with mutant issues. She made her way to cobalt to finish her degree, though after graduation she got an offer to be a consultant with a mining company. Aside from some substitute teaching, her teaching degree wasn't put to much use. She coasted on her natural talents, and married the son of the company owner. The marriage lasted eight months before being annulled, leaving Bess stung and unhappy. She left the company to make her own way, and eventually returned to Cobalt to teach high school science.
