Personality Profile: Very out going, a show off, he has quite a mischievous streak, but easy to anger when in his exoskeleton.

Physical Description: Tall and muscular though not bulging with them he's not too largely built. His form is that of someone who works out on a regular basis. His reddish brown hair is styled in a faux hawk and he possesses a small goatee. The thing that stands out the most is the fact that his left arm is completely covered in a thick greenish natural chitinous armor that ends in a single massive hinged claw reminiscent of a praying mantis. He tends to keep the limb folded over and wrapped up in a sling while in public.

Mutation/Powers (Maximum of Three):

Primary: Retractable Exoskeleton: The majority of Kenneth's abilities stem from his primary power. The retractable exoskeleton is a greenish natural armor that grants him enhanced strength, flight, claws, and of course some durability since it is armor after all. It is thick enough that while not bulletproof, depending on the range and type of projectile it would at the least just get lodged into the rough exoskeleton. At the most if it hit the right spot and was strong enough it would harm or even kill him like anyone else, the same is true for stab wounds. Kenneth ONLY possesses these abilities while inside the shell. The exoskeleton is insectile in appearance and is really a fright to see. It possesses one fairly normal looking right hand while the left limb is a huge praying mantis claw with a series of retractable spines emerging from the lower part of the arm. On Kenneth's back is a pair of gossamer wings protected by a small shell. A second pair of tiny vestigial mantis claws, and an insect like face with fanged mandibles, compound eyes, and a set of antenna complete the look.

Secondary: Fear inducement: A powerful hallucinogen is secreted from the claws, spines, and even dribbling from his mandibles at times of Kenneth's armor. This substance as well as his gaze causes an intense fear reaction in the recipient. Horrible images spring forth in their mind. Though it isn't necessary for him to do so, to a small degree Kenneth can guide the fear hallucination in the direction he wants it to go and even tweak it, but only by a little bit and only in a way that would cause more fear and pain. The effects are like a nightmare though, as a big enough scare or shock in the "FearScape" will knock the person right out of the hallucination. While they may be free of the hallucination itself, there are still a few remnants left behind, depending on how the person adjusts to traumatic experience the effects can be shaken off almost instantly or take as long as a few days.

Tertiary: Shroud of darkness: Only usable to its full extent with his Primary active. The area around his exoskeletoned form just seems darker than his surroundings, even giving off a gloomy feeling to those nearby. People within its area of effect experience a feeling of dread and hopelessness, not nearly as powerful or mind tricky as his fear ability. Some may feel nervous, anxious, or even afraid just without the mental trickery of his Secondary power. The best way to phrase it is that they feel intimidated. It is not a strong power and the effect is mostly an "I don't want to be here" or a "Something bad is going to happen" feeling. Without his armored covering on the only bits of this power he possesses is in his left arm which retains the shell even with the armor retracted (see drawbacks/weaknesses.) While human the power isn't the ominous aura of his insectile one, but just a faint summonable darkened cloudiness around the left limb. In this manner it functions as a blasting power would, projecting it in the form of shadowy disc like shapes, rather than the ability being an aura.

Drawbacks/Weaknesses:
  • Kenneth emits an unconscious warning noise before he strikes. A deep reverberating sound similar to what a cicada might make.
  • Through an accident involving his sister Shannon, Kenneth has learned that if he is harmed enough and armors up it will heal over the injured spot and not be retractable in that area he has already "lost" his left arm to this (for even more elaboration on this, see Background.)
  • Even though their armors are extremely different from one another, Shannon's being artificial and Kenneth's natural, he fears that if he isn't careful he may end up just like her and become trapped inside his armor.
  • He has a small temper problem, stemming from his aggressive mutation as the anger issues seem to come around more often while he's in his exoskeleton and following him shifting out of it. The anger also leads to a large thirst for revenge as the people who attacked Shannon that night can attest to. While he didn't kill them they certainly felt a great deal of pain when Kenneth found them.

How do you believe this character's powers will further develop in the future?: His armored form will become increasingly more and more horrific, at the very worst and possibly under an extremely rare circumstance cover him entirely permanently. It may even one day corrupt his mind and give him more feral than human tendencies.

Background: Like some physical mutants, Kenneth was not born with the extremities of his mutation. He had a normal enough childhood, until his physical mutations came in. When they first manifested the then thirteen-year-old used the horrific appearance and the fear inducing mainly to terrify his younger sisters (ages five and three.) Bratty kid that he was, Kenneth enjoyed tormenting them at first but it soon lost its appeal. Not to mention little Melissa and Shannon would still have nightmares even without him using his powers. They were also becoming afraid of him, something he was starting to regret. Shannon slowly warmed up to him, but Melissa was set in her opinion. He noticed that his youngest sibling might also be a mutant if the way she'd glow in the dark on occasion was any indication of her powers, likely brought on early from Kenneth's abuse of his own powers on her. Not too long after Kenneth turned sixteen his powers were discovered by his father, possibly tattled on by Melissa who still had a grudge and even some jealousy over her brother's powers. She mentioned nothing of Shannon, thinking that the glowing was not that big of a deal and nowhere near as cool as what Kenneth could do. Besides she much preferred having a little sister to a big brother.

Fortunately things did not get worse for Kenneth following his father disowning him, an aunt took him in where he lived a more or less normal life (for a mutant anyway) with his cousin. He wouldn't come across his little sister again for nearly a decade. Shannon's powers had greatly increased from the simple glow they had been when she was three. He could help her out in ways his friends couldn't due to his armor giving him protection against Shannon's powers. The night of Shannon's power accident that cost her, her body also led to Kenneth having an accident himself. In his fear and worry for her, he forgot to power-up and badly burned his left arm on Shannon's rapidly dissolving form. Ignoring the scorching pain in the limb Kenneth quickly powered up and covered himself in the insectile armor. Now immune to the burn and fumes of his little sister, the Fear mutant was able to get her safely inside her own armored suit. Helping his sister adjust afterwards was hard work and Kenneth now had a problem of his own. His armor never fully retracted after that night. The green encasement remained around his left arm (to a degree, it's not quite as bulky as the remainder of his exoskeletal coverings) and he felt a frightening voracity to hunt down those that attacked his little sister. After he and his friends did what they could for Shannon then helped get her somewhere that she could gain better control over her new form and advancing powers. It's been nearly a year since they sent her off, and now Kenneth's come to visit his little sister, see how she's doing, and maybe get a job on campus helping young mutants.

Quirks/Extras (Special skills, links, etc.):
  • With his exoskeleton active, Kenneth is immune to his sister's powers.
  • While human he has an extra pair of eyelids that seem to serve as a barrier to his eyes' fear abilities.
  • He does not blame Shannon for what happened to his arm.
