Winkel [Quest assignment]

[New to the setting! Located in Crowley's Row is a NPC that provides various missions/quests for PCs to go on. Sign-ups can be found in the reply to this post. Just fill out the short form and an event will be run when a couple participants are around. I, vile, or any of the ops can play the NPCs and assign a mission/quest.]

Crowley's is a place of magic fueled by mutant powers. The buildings are uneven, many lacking rhythm, defying physics. They are every different color, some primarily built with mirror-like plates of glass covering the outside. Everything is mismatched, some entire sections looking like they're carved from a great tree: the work of determined florakinetics trying to breathe life into an aging urban area. Vines creep from these units to the adjacent structures, painting them with bright flowers and vibrant green swaths of color. Some denizens have taken advantage of the change in scenery: clothes hang from the living clotheslines. The fruit and vegetable bearing patches providing some of the locals with a great bounty.

Stores line the streets, crouching underneath the living areas above. One in particular, the windows yellowed plate glass and dusty enough to have not been wiped down in years, stands out from the rest. There's a feeling of antiquity around it, of something more strange than the other average shops. A produce stand is out front of it, carrying such delicacies such as the durian fruit. Caged chickens, a goat is tied up to a fire hydrant, a couple of cats with oddly colored eyes loiter around. Christmas lights have been strung up along the Winkel's awning and inside the glass windows for lighting and decoration. The front door is generally propped open, held that way by a heavy fetish shaped like a pregnant woman. The smell of incense wafts outside, inviting pedestrians in. A sign in the window, a simple HELP WANTED: INQUIRE WITHIN CASH PAID SAME DAY serves the same purpose.

Upon stepping inside, one would find a store filled with all sorts of odds and ends. Most notably, it looks much larger on the inside than out, hinting at the use of mutant powers to expand it beyond the realm of normal physics. Carved wooden statues, jars of dried herbs and ingredients, paintings and much more. Everything is aged or looks completely natural: the only modern items inside the place are at least twenty or thirty years old. An antique radio and an aged portable TV sits on a large counter at the far end of the place that stretches from one end of the store to the other.

One of two people can usually be found manning the counter: Lefu, an aging man, his skin the color of burnt mahogany, eyes spread farther apart than a normal man's. Many deep wrinkles cover his face and body, ones from a long and difficult life. Small hardened sections of skin are sprinkled across his flesh like scales, giving him a reptilian look. His wide mouth, going halfway up the sides of his face, and the small sharp teeth lining his jaws, the too-sharp nails on his hands, lend to this cold-blooded theme. He rarely blinks, if ever, and has an intense stare, watching all those who enter his store. There's a knowing look on his impassive face, as if he knows more about a person that what's presented to the eye to see.

The second person, a much younger woman, Ngozi, who appears to be in her late teens, also has distorted features. A long face, almost regally so, solid black eyes and great curved horns arcing over her head and a pair of equine ears lay on either side of them. While her skin is as dark as her father's, there are pale blotches across her face, arms and legs. If it weren't for the horns, it would appear to be vitilago, instead of just simple orynx-like coloration. Her hair is short and black, sometimes made longer by braids being woven in.

The meaning of the signs out front are only made clear after one has inquired about them. Anyone willing to take a job are given one and they vary by day. Some of the time they require an item or a person to be located, with good coordinates or directions furnished as if they knew it all already. Others, retribution dished out in the form of a waltz or a hit. Included are bounties, dead or alive, or capture. Criminals wanted by META are also posted, along with the bounties placed, though the duo charges a 'finding fee' before handing over directions to the targeted person.

Once an individual has talked to them about doing the occasional gig with them, they can be added to an unlabeled, and coded, ledger. Their name, what jobs they prefer to take, and available times are jotted down. Should something come up that would fit their capabilities, the employee can receive a call and job.

Completed jobs can be rewarded in a variety of ways, depending on what the client prefers. An item, a way to contact Ngozi for an on-location healing whenever necessary, cash payment or some other kind of service to be determined at time of payment.
