Synopsis: The news was filled with stories of mutants' powers overloading on them or even loss of their powers. Soon discovered to have occurred just after recovering from a flu. More critically minded students started to put the pieces together and realized the mutants affected by this mysterious force were those who had been using their powers in an unethical fashion; and deduced that a vigilante was on the loose using biological warfare to teach these mutants a lesson.

First there was the firefighter, Thomas Haskel (later unmasked as Helios) who was offering "protection" money becoming one with the blaze he was attempting to extinguish (and was apparently extinguished himself in the aftermath.) - Altered and missing. Whereabouts unknown. Dead?

Next came a very choosey lifeguard with morbid ideas of life&death grandeur in his job named David Sanders, Poseidon who suffocated when he grew gills and lost his lungs. - Dead and altered

The infamous and late Colin Perdikaris, Southpaw, fierce and savage leader of an illegal and highly unethical underground mutant fighting ring where kids were used as pit bait. Lost his powers and the respect of the ring who turned on him. (The ring was subsequently taken down by undercover cop, known only by the alias Grunge and Perdikaris was killed while in transport to prison. - Dead and depowered.

The next victim hit a little closer to home when a man later identified as Orson Felix (Omneye) was dumped over the fence of the campus. He was in a delirious and highly agitated state stemming from the recent sharp spike in his mutation that left him with eyes all over his body. Subsequent interrogation by security personnel, Shinn Kirisawa revealed that the man was a frequent voyeur. - Alive but altered.

Madame Nelson, renowned psychic and medium was revealed to be a mutant with illusion powers was disgraced when her powers failed her on live-television while on a debunking program. - Missing, but alive and depowered.

The final incident was a big one, affecting four individuals. Two would be museum thieves and two security guards. Dwight and Jessica Chopin (A teleporter named Fleet and Putti, an elastically stretchy and pliable woman.) Kevin Duncan and Rachael Cormic (A chromakinetic man and a kinetically powered woman.) Fleet and Putti would have been successful in their latest excursion had it not been for them deciding to do the job while still recovering from a flu. Fleet never returned from his final teleport and Putti melted while attempting to suffocate Kevin. Putti's remains were contained and the two guards were brought to Cobalt for quarantine. Fleet: Missing. Either depowered or altered. Presumed dead. Putti: Presumed dead. Rachael: Depowered and loving the human life. Kevin: Alive but heavily altered, now resides at Cobalt.

The disease proved to be contagious and following that botched attempt to rob a museum, the campus became a quarantine zone for two security guards, both infected by the would be thieves. The inevitable occurred and the virus was loosed on the campus. Many students came down with the illness, but thankfully the particular strain was not fatal. The third party who released this plague on the campus was apparently dealt with, though the question still remains: Where did it originate from? and, will there be an encore some time in the future?
