Synopsis: A hot new energy drink was on the rise, marketed as being 'For mutants, by mutants'. What is was in reality, was an addictive power-boosting substance that could often have devastating effects. A number of students became addicted and even lashed out when help was offered, and the situation in Salem didn't seem any better.

Pulse was first banned from school grounds, and, after the Dean had a talk with the FDA, it was pulled from Salem shelves. Several incidents of addicted mutants going violent occured; a pair of teens nearly demolished a mall in Salem before being apprehended by the former MTF, now META.

Cobalt Academy saw several occurrences of mutants trying to steal their confiscated stockpiles, either covertly or by force. The supplies were then shipped off to an undisclosed META facility. It was then determined that a team of mutants were to be put together in order to find the locations of Pulse production facilities and shut them down. However, the first location they found was abandoned -- it was speculated that the people behind Pulse were planning on re-releasing it under a new name. They ran into four men, who transformed into one BIG man, but managed to beat him and obtain the whereabouts of the other locations, including the source.

The team was then sent to a beautiful mansion, which turned out to be housing the source of Pulse. The house was to be destroyed, but not until all occupants of the house were evacuated and detained. Jack Sterling and Hannibal Kelly found a secret elevator leading to a room where a sickly woman, a mutant power-amplificator, lay. She was the source, her blood being drained of the chemical that made up the key component of Pulse, barely sustained enough to live. She begged for, and was given, death after explaining that she and her children Michael and Johnathan were in a car accident, Henry Darnell and his men promising to save the boys if the woman, Cathy, helped them. Unfortunately, the boys did not make it, and Cathy spent nearly a year being drained of her mutant boosting chemical in order to make Pulse.

Once the house was clear, Shannon Myers sanitized the mansion and its property with a nuclear blast after several smaller explosives were placed inside of the house, ensuring that no more pure Pulse would be made. However, since then, the unsavories of Salem have figured out a way to synthesize it into a less potent, but still dangerous drug which is now one of the hottest new commodities in the mutant underground scene.
