Personality Profile: Shy, easily spooked, and nervous. Afraid that people won't like her, she tends to be clingy and tries to be overly helpful.Also, she should probably cut down on her caffeine.

Physical Description: Shandi is a bit on the small side with short sandy colored hair. Her fox form looks like a normal fennec fox. Sandy colored fur on top, white underneath. Ears and tail tipped with black, though she has very distinctive markings. Dark tear stripes on her face, and a crescent moon on each ear.

Mutation/Powers:

Primary: Thermokinetic Aura: Since contracting Mutie Flu, Shandi's thermokinesis has been altered. Whereas she could once control the temperature in her immediate area, she is now restricted to her person. Range may have lowered, but how high she can go has gained a significant boost. 100 degrees used to be her normal effortless point, that has been increased to 200 degrees. But, Shandi can go much, much higher if she focuses. She usually uses her hands to direct and focus this ability, the lowest would be to cook food, the highest would be creating glass, (See secondary) but heating up a room is no longer an option. Her thermokinesis is now personal space only. Another plus is that Shandi can now withstand heat sources other than her own, whereas before fire or another thermokinetic or pyrokinetic's heat would due her harm. Shandi may have lost the ability to spread the heat outwards, but she can now fire off her heat in the form of mini blast like waves. This power is also effective in her fox form, only she focuses the heat blasts with her tail and ears as the fennec body does not possess hands. The power is now always in effect, making Shandi feel like she has a constant fever though she herself suffers no ill-effects.

Secondary: Sand Generation: Shandi's ability to create sand has become partially hampered. With her thermokinesis acting up her sand powers now border on hyalokinesis (glass control). Shandi still does produce and control sand, but more often than not her themokinesis makes the sand emerge as glass instead. Now making sand requires the concentration Shandi once needed to make glass. She still cannot control the glass, but making objects is now a lot easier on her. At rest the sand is still merely sand just like before mutie flu affected her abilities. She can still form additional and functional limbs out of her sand but it needs a lot of concentration so it doesn't emerge as a mess of something in between sand and glass. Forming weapons from her sand/glass on the other hand seems lesser affected as she would not need to make a mobile sword, whereas an extra arm would need motion. She still tends to shed off sand at times, this apparently not affected by her accidental glass creation. In her fox form, like with her thermokinesis directs the sand with her tail and ears.

Tertiary: Vulpine Form: Shandi can change her shape from human to vulpine. To be more specific, she can turn into a fennec fox. This ability can function both at will and uncontrollably when she gets scared. Not a very big animal, Shandi is pretty small in this form. But she makes up for her lack of size in stealth and speed. Once again mutie flu has altered her powers, while the form is a normal fennec fox body with apparently no "extra" attributes, she now carries on vestiges of being human. An example of this being, retaining the ability to talk or being able to walk on two legs for a short period of time before her body goes completely fox. While Shandi can spend indefinite time in this form, there is a catch. The form also possesses a fox's mind and instincts. The longer Shandi stays a fox, the more she starts to act like one, and the harder it gets to turn back into her human form. On turning back to human form, once again, Shandi retains a few vulpine remnants that vanish as time passes

Drawbacks/Weaknesses:
  • Both wind and water lessen Shandi's abilities' effectiveness.
    -Wind blows away both her collected heat and her sand.
    -Water completely nullifies her sand usage, once wet and muddy the sand becomes unfit for her control.
  • As for her fox form, its been stated before that if she stays in the fox body for too long she starts to act more and more like a fox and it gets harder to reach her human mind to get her to change back. Even if she's stayed in the form for too long, Shandi never acts 100% fox, there's always some spark in her behavior that could make someone suspect that something isn't right with that fox. Other than it not being indigenous to North America.

How do you believe this character's powers will further develop in the future? Her control over sand could become more than an annoyance. Combining with her thermokenesis and forming actual small scale (at first) sand storms. She could stay in fox form for longer periods without falling to the vulpine mind.

Background: Shandi had known that she had powers ever since she was twelve. Ever since she saw her older brother's powers manifest during his track run. She had been cheering for him up until that moment his powers emerged. She wasn't afraid of him, she was afraid for him. After seeing his own powers come out, she realized what she thought was wrong with her, were mutant powers as well. She still kept them to herself, too afraid on seeing the reactions her parents had towards Michael. Though she continued to be supportive of her brother and still got along with him. She managed to hide them for nearly four years, even from her brother who had left home after only two. At first Shandi only knew about two of her powers; Thermokinesis and her sand control. They both appeared at the same time when Shandi was about twelve. The family had an outing at a beach one day. So Shandi wasn't even sure that the increasingly warm (and then even hot) sand that followed her around were powers. But when it seemed to follow her around even once they were home a few days, Shandi now realized that this wasn't just residue from the beach. The powers weren't quite as flashy as some others might be, and so were very easy to practice covertly. It wasn't until she was fifteen that she realized she could make glass objects. A hobby she grew to love, though her sudden collection of glass figurine animals needed a cover story. Her third and final power came later and showed up very unexpectedly. Shandi was in the corner store, picking up a few items (bread, milk, eggs.) Then came the horrible sound of tires squealing, followed by the shattering of a window and one of the store's walls collapsing. A car had lost control and crashed through the side of the building. It would have hit her too, only Shandi was suddenly a lot smaller. She kept her eyes closed for what seemed like hours, waiting for that feeling of impact that never came. Finally, Shandi worked up the courage to open her eyes. Immediately, she realized that something was fishy. The cries of "Mutant" were being yelled at her now. Scared and confused she just took off running, her brother still kept in touch with her though letters and email, some place called Cobalt.

Quirks/Extras (Random fun facts about your character!):
  • Not an actual power, more of a quirk but Shandi can combine her Primary and Secondary powers to produce glass. Whether she chooses to make little figurines out of this power or even something like claws is up to her.
  • She can use sand other than the material she generates but that requires more concentration.
  • Once the sand becomes glass, Shandi loses her control over it, other than using whatever items she created for their intended purposes.
  • If she were to keep a feature such as claws or spikes for too long (over an hour) it would merge with her, being almost permanent unless they were to be broken or shed off. Having such an attachment also nullifies her shifting ability keeping her locked either in human or fox form.
  • Making glass no longer takes a lot of energy out of her, but forming sand unaltered by her thermokinesis does. It may not leave Shandi with a migraine as making glass once did, but it will take more of an effort now.
  • The scent of a beach seems to cling to her.
