Prime

These characters need a little more work. They may be too strong, not well thought-out, there may be too many occurrences of the same power in channel, or they may not fit with the channel's theme!

Physical Description: Hair : White, covering the entire body, thinning around face hands, and feet, with thicker 'fur' across the back, and along the skull

Notable non-human features : Subject possesses a full sized tail, approximately 1.4 meters in length. Subject's skull appears to be a hybridization of human and rodent features. Hands, feet, and legs are also partially hybridized. Subject presents as only having two teats, as opposed to the normal compliment of 12 for a Rattus genus. Teats are notably under developed, compared to human teats.

---------------------------------

General Power Information:Prime's powers fall into 3 catagories. Controlling Rats, Changing Rats, and being rediculously smart.

Ability One: She's a super-genius, with gadgeteer abilities. This is primarily used to support her mischief.

Ability Two: She's some sort of Animal Controller who specializes in Rats.

Her powers(I'm listing the 'perfect world here. End result may differ strongly)may include, but are not limited to;

1. The ability to detect any Rattus within 1 mile.

2. The ability to communicate mentally with any Rattus within 1 mile.

3. The ability to form a permanent bond with any Rattus physically touched.

Ability Three: The ability to 'uplift' Bonded Rattus. (Uplifting is the process where a specific animal is intentionally forcibly 'evolved' into an improved version of the base species.)

Drawbacks & Weaknesses: Prime is small, and while strong for her size, she's only 80 pounds. She does not see well in bright light, requiring either darkness, or protective lenses. As far as the law is concerned, she's not human, and therefore, has no rights.

Skills: Prime managed to work her way through most of MIT's on line course catalog before it was taken off line. She still takes any online STEM course she can get access to. Not only is she skilled in the theoretical, she has a solid grounding in the practical, as her technical skills are what stands between the mischief and starvation.

Background: June 12th, 1999, a project dealing with creating human level sentience in rats for the purposes of experiementation was completed, and 'Prime' was decanted. A retrovirally spliced creation, she was to be the first of a test subject/servitor race for the organization <REDACTED> When the Superhero team <REDACTED> raided that lab and destroyed it, Prime was accidentally released into the wild.

Prime wound up in Chinatown, specifically, -underneath- Chinatown. She did not achieve sapience until late 2003. Her first moments of self awareness began in the tunnels under Chinatown. (I am taking the liberty that the game world tunnels are more interesting than the real world tunnels.)

Most people only saw brief glimpses of Prime, and attributed her existance to myth. Other folk thought she brought good luck, and would leave out food for her.

The 'lucky rat of chinatown' became an enduring, if recent myth. Some people would (obviously falsely, but who doesn't love a good story) claim that the lucky rat had arrived with the first chinese in san francisco.

(please note, while Prime's story was 'charming local folk-lore' it was in no way the kind of crazy popular that happens with things like bigfoot, or other bits of crypto-zoology)

In 2010, Prime's ability to control and change other rodents manifested, and her 'family' began to mutate. larger, stronger, most importantly, -smarter-. It would seem that <REDACTED>'s research was bearing fruit, if somewhat delayed. Prime found this extremely confusing, and started trying to figure out what was going on. This event is what pushed Prime to start engaging with humanity, instead of avoiding it. She knew that humans used portable electronics to access 'the internet', and began collecting anything that was lost in the tunnels, subways, alleys... or simply thrown away. The pile of electronic crap got pretty large. Prime managed to aquire one working unit, and wireless access. The rest is history. She figured out how to use the device, then how to use the data the device could show her. She discovered MIT's online course catalog, then others.

Realizing she needed more and better tools, she managed to make a successful attempt to connect with humans. Prime started by working with the "lucky white rat spirit" myth, and doing good for households who left out food for her and her mischief. Leaving notes, returning lost items, calling away rats from buildings. This helped her learn some basics of the human condition, but simple observation was not sufficient. She needed direct contact.

She carefully selected an old Chinese grandmother with bad eyesight as her first contact.

From 2011 to 2012, she acted as Mrs Chu's hands and eyes inside her apartment. Learning how to dress, how to clean, how to 'human'.
At first, this worked out perfectly. Mrs.s Chu got a caretaker, and Prime learned how to interact with people. This could have gone on for an extended period of time, but for certain quirks of the human condition.

Mrs. Chu's adult children had been studiously ignoring thier mother when she reached out to them for contact and assistance. They became concerned when those attempts to reach out stopped. Talking to her, they first assumed that their mother was 'being scammed', and came home to visit. Mrs. Chu was delighted, but the 'nice young girl' was always 'away' when Chu's children came to visit. The adult children became concerned after a time. Mrs. Chu's adult children thought Mrs. Chu had gone senile, as she kept talking about the 'nice young girl who comes by to check on me and help me around the house'... which no-one other than Mrs. Chu had ever seen. They were suspicious, but it was clear that -someone- was taking care of their mother. They started to make arrangements to have her moved to a home for the mentally unwell. Rather than see Mrs. Chu institutionalized, she allowed Chu's adult children to see her. This ended poorly, with them freaking out, and forcibly moving Mrs. Chu to Los Angeles. Prime went back into hiding, and was rather hurt by this, but had learned some useful tricks from this mess. When the 'giant freak' vanished without a trace, several more stories about "Dà shu jingshén" circulated, with specific commentary about ungrateful children who did not properly care for their aging parents.

Several Agencies and organizations took note, but not at any serious level. "make a file, and if anything further crops up, take note."

Prime also learned what pawnshops and fleamarkets are.

But she needed a new 'face'. So she found Joey Hong. Joey Hong was a homeless person who spend most of his time seeing things that werent there. But he was still somewhat rational. So, when approached by a 5 foot tall talking white rat with a business proposition, he wasn't terribly freaked out. And the rat paid pretty well, and even helped Hong get back on his meds. Hong was slightly confused when the talking rat stayed when all the -other- hallucinations left, but in his words "Man, I've been seeing weirder shit for years, and you're the first hallucination who pays me, so as far as I'm concerned, you can stay."

From 2012-2013 she began collecting broken hardware, fixing it, and using Hong, selling the results on ebay, or to pawnshops. She used the proceeds to buy rat food, tools, and books.

but nickle-and-dime portable computer repair wasnt going to buy what Prime really needed, which was access to serious computer hardware and software, specifically for genetic sequencing research. All of her hustling was for one specific goal. Find out why the rest of her mischief(social grouping of rats, usually biologically related.) was randomly mutating...

So, she broke the law. She hunted for, and found a company that had a -lot- of big iron ($ORG). She hacked in, and started stealing computer time. She also started robbing Biotech suppliers. Given that much of what she was stealing was on all kinds of 'controlled substance' lists, Prime popped up on the radar of those who track supers based crime. It took them a couple of years, but the net began to close. Prime, who's always been alert to the signs of trouble, realized she was about to be caught, and using desperate measures, took the first high speed cargo container out of town that she could get, and as -far- as she could get.

Criminal Record: Prime has yet to be caught in a criminal act.
